Dilli Chalo March Leader Shubhkaran Singh Laid to Rest as Punjab Police Initiates Zero FIR

Shubhkaran Singh, 22, a farmer, passed away on Thursday in his hometown of Balloh in Punjab’s Bathinda district. Shubhkaran Singh was shot by the Haryana Police on February 21 during the Delhi Chalo march, according to reports.

The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and the non-political Samyukt Kisan Morcha called the Dilli Chalo march in protest of several demands, including a legal guarantee for MSP.

Zero FIR

After the Punjab Police filed a “Zero FIR” regarding Shubhkaran Singh’s passing, the body was cremated. Since February 21, the body has been kept at the mortuary at Rajindra Medical College and Hospital in Punjab.

Any police station, regardless of jurisdiction, that receives a complaint about any crime that is punishable by law may file a Zero FIR. At this point, no standard FIR number is assigned. The concerned police station files a new FIR and begins the investigation after receiving the Zero FIR. You can file this FIR as soon as the incident occurs.

Inspector General Sukhchain Singh Gill of the Punjab Police Headquarters confirmed the Zero FIR, stating, “After receiving legal advice, a Zero FIR has been filed in Shubhkaran’s case.” The Punjab Chief Minister promised Subhkaran’s family compensation of Rs 1 crore. The family has requested that his sister be allowed to join the Punjab Police as a constable.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said to reporters in Mohali, “We have filed a formal complaint after consulting with legal counsel. We will now investigate the incident’s location and the person(s) accountable for the death. The offenders will face severe consequences.

SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia responded to the Zero FIR by saying, “Zero FIR means zero results… Will the government of Haryana act against its citizens? By turning into a tout for Haryana, Bhagwant Mann is giving in to their influence. He is currently carrying out his duties to the Haryana government’s and police’s instructions. Five of the more than 250 farmers who were hurt lost their sight. In what way will they guarantee Shubhkaran’s justice?
