Dharti Kahe Pukar Ke: A Wake-Up Call By DPS Class V Students to Save Mother Earth

Education in its real sense is never limited to books but it emphasizes the overall development of a child. Learning refers to opening many-many doors where a person develops into an aware citizen. With the very same motive, DPS is educating every student where they grow up to realize how important it is to think, introspect, and sometimes interrogate, right in time.

On February 7, a global warming-themed Annual Day was held at Delhi Public School, East of Kailash jointly organized by Jr. School of DPS, R.K. Puram, to raise awareness on the need of the hour. The title ‘Dharti Kahe Pukar Ke’ established the theme of mother Earth crying out to her children to save her and restore her to her former beauty and glory.

The principal, Ms. Usha Diptivilasa, lit the lamp and delivered an address to set the tone for the event.

The Performance- ‘EK Soch Hai Jaagi’

Through an ethereal dance, the pristine Earth in its most natural state—complete with all of its beauty, peace, harmony, and coexisting biodiversity—was depicted. The necessity of the holistic development of mind, body, and spirit was established through a yoga cum Mohiniattam dance performance in a Gurukul setting. The mayhem caused by modern man, which results in deforestation, environmental degradation owing to the abuse of plastics, and pollution due to man’s greed, was shown in a tableau that was skillfully merged with a rap song. A furious Earth cursed humanity with destruction. The audience’s senses were then raised by a Nukkad Natak that depicted a grim future if we continue to abuse Mother Earth.

The audience was mesmerized by a dance-drama that portrayed kids as eco-warriors and activists who were out to recreate and restore a beautiful Earth. The class V kids’ melodic performances of ‘We are the World’ and ‘EK Soch Hai Jaagi’, the school anthem and the national anthem, respectively, marked the conclusion of the amazing performance.

The lesson via the show

The show’s highlights included mother Earth and all of her forms. The children dressed as Mother Earth were the day’s star performers, holding up eight hands with words that at first expressed beauty, then disaster, and eventually restoration. A genuinely urgent and universal issue was presented by 210 Class V pupils.

Rap music used in the programme

Rap music was used in the programme to display a scenario. Deforestation and pollution brought on by the excessive usage of plastic owing to human avarice were demonstrated in this. The performance also introduced the rage of the ruined earth, in which a gloomy future was projected.

The Audience’s appraisal

As the performance drew to a conclusion to the cheers and applause of the excited crowd, the children, faculty, and parents swore an oath to protect the Earth.
