Devendra Fadnavis Appointed Leader Of Maharashtra BJP Legislative Party

Devendra Fadnavis was unanimously elected as the Leader of the Maharashtra BJP Legislative Party on Wednesday, setting the stage for his anticipated return as the Chief Minister of the state.

The announcement came during a legislative party meeting held at the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan, where the BJP core committee formally nominated him as their leader.

BJP leaders Chandrakant Patil and Sudhir Mungantiwar nominated Fadnavis, presenting his name in a show of solidarity.

They announced, “I nominate Devendra Saritatai Gangadharrao Fadnavis as the leader of the party’s legislative wing.”

State BJP President Chandrashekhar Bawankule praised Fadnavis’ leadership, highlighting the party’s historic election victory under his guidance.

He stated, “We will ensure Maharashtra reaches the number one position with the help of PM Modi. We should thank crores of the people of Maharashtra that we contested 149 seats and won 132 which is the highest in history. Our allies also won 57 and 41 seats. 7 MLAs have also given support to us so we will have 237 Mahayuti members in this Assembly.”

Ashish Shelar Appointed BJP Chief Whip In Maharashtra Assembly

In related developments, BJP leader Ashish Shelar appointed as the chief whip of the party in the Assembly.

The meeting also saw the presence of Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who served as BJP’s Central Observers for the state. They were present to oversee the proceedings and ensure the party’s leadership transition went smoothly.

Meanwhile, preparations for the swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister, likely to take place on 5 December, are in full swing.
Leaders from the Mahayuti alliance, including BJP’s Girish Mahajan, Gulab Rao Patil, and Sanjay Shirsat, visited Mumbai’s Azad Maidan to review the venue ahead of the event.

Senior NDA leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are likely to attend the ceremony.

The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance’s decisive victory in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly Election marked a major milestone, securing 235 seats, with the BJP emerging as the largest party with 132 seats.

The Shiv Sena and NCP also contributed to the win with 57 and 41 seats, respectively.
