Dengue Figures Will Not Be Suppressed, Says Agnimitra Paul In West Bengal

West Bengal Municipal Affairs and Urban Development Minister Agnimitra Paul said authorities will accurately report dengue cases while strengthening testing, treatment and preventive measures. She said the government’s priority is to eradicate dengue, not suppress infection figures.

The Minister made the remarks during a dengue awareness rally in Asansol Dakshin, West Burdwan, on Saturday.

Agnimitra Paul said Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had instructed officials to record dengue cases accurately after blood tests and ensure confirmed infections are clearly reflected in medical reports.

The Asansol Municipal Corporation organised the awareness march from Ramsay Maidan to Battala Bazar in Mahishila.

Asansol Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dilip Mishra, the District Forest Officer and sanitation workers participated in the campaign.

The Minister said dengue cases have emerged in three wards of the Asansol Dakshin constituency.

Around 40 to 48 patients across the district are currently receiving treatment.

Agnimitra Paul recalled Opposition allegations that the Trinamool Congress government had suppressed dengue figures, noting that she and CM Suvendu Adhikari had repeatedly raised the issue in the Assembly.

The Minister announced that authorities will distribute mosquito nets to residents in the affected wards, with priority given to low-income families.

Officials will, however, organise health camps and intensify cleanliness drives.

Agnimitra Paul urged residents to prevent stagnant water from accumulating around their homes.

People with fever lasting more than two days should undergo dengue testing at government hospitals, where adequate testing kits are available, and tests will remain free.

The Minister said sustained public awareness will remain essential to controlling and eventually eliminating dengue.
