Delhi University Hosts International Conference On ‘Vishal Bharat’; Focuses On Culture, Climate And Civilisational Values

A two-day international conference titled ‘Culture, Climate and History: Lessons from Vishal Bharat’ commenced at the University of Delhi.

The Forum for Awareness of National Security (FANS) organised the event in collaboration with Vivekananda Global University, Jaipur, the Centre for Himalayan Studies at Delhi University, and the Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution at Jamia Millia Islamia.

The gathering drew scholars, researchers, social activists and thinkers from India and abroad.

Addressing the inaugural session, Dr Indresh Kumar, Chief Patron of FANS and a member of the RSS National Executive, urged young people to stay committed to Indian civilisation and the nation. He stated that the session aimed to ‘sow the seeds of nationalism’ among the youth.

Drawing from his interactions across the country, he further observed that young Indians are increasingly aware of external ideological influences and remain dedicated to strengthening their national identity.

Dr Kumar highlighted the sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters, noting that they laid down their lives with a deep sense of patriotism. He underlined that India’s core values—love, brotherhood and tolerance—offer a message of peace to the world. He also praised FANS for encouraging youth to uphold these principles with determination.

Dr Kumar remarked, “The ideals of Indian youth are not Kasab but Kalam,” referring to former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam as a role model for nation-building.

Senior journalist Harshvardhan Tripathi spoke about the importance of the Indian family system in nurturing empathy, balance and sustainability. He noted that these values could guide the global community during times of crisis.

Padma Shri awardee Agus Indra Udayana from Indonesia welcomed the inclusion of his country in the broader cultural vision of ‘Vishal Bharat’ and appreciated India’s support in restoring the historic Prambanan Temple.

Acharya Lokesh Muni stressed the need to prioritise the emotional and mental well-being of youth. He further advocated for value-based education at the primary level to build a compassionate society.

Jasbir Singh, Executive Chairman of FANS, recalled India’s legacy as a global hub of knowledge. He said such initiatives aim to revive that tradition.

Prof BW Pandey further added that achieving the vision of ‘Vishal Bharat’ requires building a ‘Viksit Bharat’. He highlighted India’s growing global stature.

Uday Mahurkar discussed the contributions of Veer Savarkar. He also raised concerns about social issues linked to the spread of harmful content. He called for greater awareness and policy measures.

Vikramaditya Singh emphasised that dialogue remains central to Indian civilisation. He explained that national security extends beyond military strength and depends on collective societal participation, which helps maintain stability.

The session, however, concluded with the launch of Dr Shakeel Hussain’s book ‘Vishal Bharat: Cultural and Civilisational Consciousness’. Several academics and dignitaries attended the event.

Subsequent technical sessions featured research presentations and in-depth discussions on cultural, historical and contemporary aspects of the conference theme.
