Delhi Unites For ‘Save Yamuna’ ; CM Gupta & Union Ministers Lead Faith-Science Festival To Revive The River

The Delhi Government’s Ministry of Art and Culture, in collaboration with the Yamuna Sansad, is all set to host Yamunotsav 2025.

It is a two-day mega event on November 2-3 at Vasudev Ghat, near Kashmiri Gate.

With the powerful slogan “Save Yamuna, Save Delhi,” the festival brings together faith, science and civic action. This is to unified effort to rejuvenate the dying Yamuna River – the lifeline of the capital.

The event blends spiritual devotion, cultural heritage, and scientific insight to spark a citywide movement for river revival.

Day One: Faith, Culture & Leadership Unite for the Yamuna

The first day, November 2, will begin on a deeply spiritual note with a Women’s Kalash Yatra, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and MP Bansuri Swaraj.

Hundreds of women will walk in devotion, carrying sacred urns symbolising purity and renewal.

Soon after, the focus shifts to the Jal Yagya (Water Ritual), performed by Ranjit Pathak (Chaturvedi) using holy water brought from Yamunotri.

The ceremony will witness the presence of senior ministers, MPs, and MLAs, signifying political unity in the fight to save the river.

The morning will transition into cultural performances by Brajwasi Mandal, dramatising the plight of the Yamuna through music and theatre.

The afternoon will feature folk and classical performances, representing diverse traditions from regions along the river’s course.

Environmentalists who have successfully led river-cleaning missions across India will share their inspiring stories.

The day will conclude with a Musical Yamuna Katha by Reverend Ajay Bhai Ji, followed by the grand Yamuna Aarti, jointly performed by Reverend Chidanand Saraswati Ji (Head, Parmarth Niketan, Rishikesh) and Ajay Bhai Ji.

The Aarti will illuminate the riverbank, symbolising spiritual and environmental awakening.

Day Two: Science, Policy & Faith Shape the Solution

On November 3, Yamunotsav will evolve into a full-fledged Yamuna Conclave, merging spirituality, science and governance.

The day will begin with a Yamuna Stuti by the Jal Saheliyon Jal Band from Bundelkhand, celebrating the role of women in water conservation. The sessions will explore key aspects of the Yamuna’s restoration.

Delhi Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra, Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav, and Prof Shashank Shekhar from Delhi University will lead discussions. They will focus on the Yamuna’s history and the pressing challenges it faces today.

Later, Water Minister Pravesh Singh Verma and Dr Rajendra Singh (the Waterman of India) will emphasise community participation in sustainable solutions.

Environmental experts, including Dr Vijendra Swaroop of Namami Gange and Dr Debadityo Sinha, will present policy frameworks and ecological measures for long-term rejuvenation.

The festival will conclude with a Valedictory Session attended by Union Ministers C. R. Patil and Ramdas Athawale, along with BJP Delhi President Virendra Sachdeva.

Reverend Ajay Bhai Ji will perform the final Yamuna Aarti, marking the spiritual closure of the two-day event.

Beyond the festival, Yamuna Sansad continues to drive a grassroots campaign for the river’s revival.

Earlier this year, thousands of Delhiites formed a 22 km-long human chain along the Yamuna’s banks to raise awareness about pollution and encroachment.

Led by Ravishankar Tiwari, the organisation also launched the Bhikshatan Mahayagya, a year-long movement that began on Bhai Dooj.

Ravishankar Tiwari has vowed to go door to door seeking alms until the next Bhai Dooj. He urges citizens to contribute their tan, man, and dhan (body, mind, and wealth) to support the river’s cause.

Yamunotsav 2025 blends devotion, dialogue and action to awaken collective consciousness. It reminds Delhi that saving the Yamuna means saving its soul, heritage and future.
