Delhi Police Registers Cases Against CM Atishi, Supporters Over MCC Violation, Police Obstruction

On Tuesday, the Delhi Police registered two cases—one against Chief Minister Atishi for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and another against her supporters for obstructing government work and attacking police personnel.

CM Atishi, accompanied by a convoy of 10 vehicles and around 50-60 supporters, reached Fateh Singh Marg. When police officials directed her to leave, citing MCC restrictions, she refused to comply.

The case against CM Atishi was registered based on a complaint from the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Following this, CM Atishi, the AAP candidate for the Kalkaji seat, criticized the Delhi Police and ECI. She accused them of ‘acting in a partisan manner’.

Taking to X, CM Atishi posted, “The Election Commission is also amazing! Ramesh Bidhuri ji’s family members are openly violating the Model Code of Conduct. No action is being taken against them.”

“I filed a complaint and called the police and @ECISVEEP, and they filed a case against me! Rajiv Kumar ji: How much will you ruin the electoral process,” the post added.

Meanwhile, Manish Bidhuri, nephew of BJP’s Kalkaji candidate Ramesh Bidhuri, has been booked under the Representation of People Act.

Campaigning for the Delhi Assembly elections concluded on Monday, with 699 candidates contesting across 70 constituencies.

The elections will likely serve as a referendum on AAP’s governance over the past decade, while also shaping the BJP’s prospects in the Capital for the next five years.

The outcome will also determine whether the Congress can stage a political comeback in Delhi.

Polling for the 70-member Delhi Assembly is scheduled for Wednesday, with results set to be announced on 8 February.
