The Special Cell of the Delhi Police arrested Vikas Shaka, a key member of the notorious Gogi gang, after a late-night gunfight in the Barwala Chowk area of Rohini.
The operation, carried out late Friday night, ended with Shaka sustaining a bullet injury before being apprehended.
Shaka, a resident of Jhajjar in Haryana, had been on the run for several months.
Police confirmed his involvement in multiple violent crimes, including murder, kidnapping, and extortion, across Delhi-NCR, Haryana, and Rajasthan.
He was the main suspect in a brutal murder case in Haryana, where he allegedly kidnapped a man, strangled him, and later burnt the body in Alwar.
According to officials, the Special Cell had been closely tracking Shaka’s movements.
Acting on a tip-off about his plan to meet an associate at Barwala Chowk, police set up a trap and sealed off the area.
When Shaka arrived on a motorcycle and sensed the police presence, he opened fire in an attempt to escape.
The police returned fire, injuring Shaka in the leg before capturing him.
Police recovered a country-made pistol, multiple live cartridges, and the motorcycle Shaka was using at the time of the encounter.
Authorities transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment.
He is currently in police custody, and interrogation is underway.
Investigators believe Shaka’s arrest could lead to crucial insights into the Gogi gang’s ongoing criminal activities.
The gang, once led by the slain kingpin Jitender Maan alias Gogi, is infamous for its involvement in contract killings, extortion, armed robberies, and inter-gang conflicts.
The Gogi gang has remained a significant threat in the region.
Its leader, Jitender Gogi, was shot dead inside a Rohini courtroom in 2021 in a brazen attack that underscored the scale of gang warfare in Delhi.
Shaka’s arrest marks a significant breakthrough in efforts to dismantle the gang’s network.
