Delhi-NCR Weather Update: Rain, Gusty Winds Bring Relief From Rising Heat

A sudden change in weather brought much-needed respite to residents of Delhi and the National Capital Region on Friday, as dark clouds, gusty winds, and a brief spell of light rain interrupted days of intense heat.

The transformation unfolded in the afternoon, replacing harsh sunlight with overcast skies and scattered showers.

Areas that had been sweltering under rising temperatures saw a noticeable dip, with many residents stepping out to enjoy the cooler conditions.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the region had been experiencing steadily rising temperatures in recent days.

Maximum temperatures were hovering between 37 degrees Celsius and 39 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures ranged from 21 degrees Celsius to 24 degrees Celsius.

Earlier on Friday, the minimum temperature reached 22.4°C. High humidity and strong solar radiation had made conditions particularly uncomfortable before the weather shift.

The drizzle, though brief, helped bring down temperatures marginally and improved overall comfort levels. Residents described the change as a ‘breather’ from the oppressive heat.

Meteorologists say such sudden changes are typical during the pre-summer period in north India, when intense daytime heating leads to localised cloud formation, gusty winds, and occasional rainfall. These weather events are usually short-lived.

The IMD has cautioned that the relief is unlikely to last. Its seven-day forecast points to partly cloudy conditions in the short term, followed by clearer skies and a renewed rise in temperatures.

Daytime temperatures are likely to increase gradually, reaching 38°C to 39°C in the coming days. They may also cross the 40°C mark. Night temperatures are likely to rise to around 24°C.

With heatwave conditions expected to develop, experts have advised residents to stay hydrated. Residents should avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours.
