The Delhi-NCR region is witnessing a noticeable change in weather, with temperatures dropping steadily since the last week of October, marking the onset of early winter.
Light fog has begun to appear across several areas, hinting at the seasonal transition.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature over the next few days is likely to remain between 30°C and 31°C, while the minimum may fall to around 17°C.
Humidity will likely stay high, between 50 and 90 per cent, creating conditions favourable for morning and evening smog.
The IMD forecast for 29 October indicates a maximum of 28°C and a minimum of 18°C, accompanied by shallow fog.
On 30 October, light fog will likely continue, with temperatures hovering near 30°C (max) and 18°C (min).
Between 31 October and 3 November, misty mornings are likely to persist, with temperatures gradually dipping to around 30°C during the day and 17°C at night.
However, the pleasant chill has been overshadowed by worsening air quality, as pollution levels across Delhi-NCR have entered the severe category.
Meteorologists warn that a combination of dropping temperatures and weak wind movement could lead to thicker smog, reducing visibility, particularly in the early morning and late evening hours.
Experts have cautioned that prolonged exposure to smog may trigger or worsen respiratory problems such as asthma, bronchitis, and eye irritation, especially in children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing conditions.
The IMD has not forecast any rainfall for the region this week, and it expects the weather to stay dry.
Persistent humidity and pollution are likely to maintain light fog and misty conditions during mornings.
Health specialists have advised residents, especially senior citizens and children, to take precautions during outdoor activities, wear protective masks, and follow pollution-safety measures.
Meteorologists anticipate that the cold will intensify after the first week of November, with minimum temperatures expected to fall even further.
