Delhi High Court Notices ED On Chanpreet Singh’s Bail Plea Amid Excise Case

On Friday, the Delhi High Court served a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) concerning Chanpreet Singh’s bail plea. Singh stands accused in the Delhi excise policy case.

The plea comes in light of the trial court recently rejecting Singh’s previous bail application.

Justice Amit Sharma’s bench has scheduled a detailed hearing for 2 July.

Chanpreet Singh is believed to play a pivotal role in the transfer and utilization of proceeds derived from the Delhi excise policy.

Chanpreet, represented by advocates Chirag Madan and Ravleen Sabharwal, stated that he does not have a tendency to evade the law. He has been available throughout the investigation and has cooperated fully. However, the ED unlawfully arrested him despite this.

The defense counsels stated that the investigation concerning Chanpreet Singh has concluded. They said that the ED has indicated that the final prosecution complaint will be submitted by 3 July, 2024,

The court learned that hawala operators, whose reliability is under scrutiny, gave the statements that led to Chanpreet Singh’s arrest.

Earlier, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had arrested Singh in connection with the same case. The allegations of money laundering arise from the CBI’s First Information Report (FIR).

The ED has arrested several individuals involved in the Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently in judicial custody at Tihar jail.

According to the ED, Chanpreet Singh actively worked as a freelance campaigner for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) during the Goa elections from May to June 2021.

He also received compensation from m/s Wizspk Communications for public relations work contracted by the Delhi Government’s Department of Information and Publicity.
