Delhi Court Sentences Five Persons for Engaging in Anti-National Activities in India, Linked to ISIS Affiliate

A Delhi Court has issued varying jail terms to five individuals, including a Kashmiri couple, for engaging in anti-national activities in India and affiliating with Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), a faction of the banned terrorist group ISIS.

Jahanzaib Sami, a software engineer, received a 20-year prison sentence for offenses under Section 17 and 18 of UAPA, along with other charges under the Indian Penal Code and UAPA. His involvement in radicalization, recruitment, and fundraising through cryptocurrency was noted by the court.

Hina Bashir Beg, Sami’s wife, was sentenced to 8 years for her role in supporting IS ideology and actively participating in their activities on social media.

Abdulla Basit, who admitted guilt, was released after serving his time already undergone.

Sadiya Anwar Shaikh, a journalism student, received a 7-year sentence for her strong alignment with ISIS ideology.

Nabeel Siddick Khatri was sentenced to 15 years for his involvement in raising funds for ISIS activities in India.

All sentences will run concurrently, and the accused were found guilty of promoting ISIS ideology, instigating seditious activities, and attempting to exploit sentiments during anti-CAA protests.
