Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Sent To Tihar Jail, Allowed Limited Belongings And Approved Visitors

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, currently an undertrial prisoner with identification number 670, has been admitted to Tihar Jail’s Ward No. 3, accompanied by specific allowances outlined by the court. On Monday, dressed in a white shirt, Kejriwal entered Tihar Jail at approximately 4:45 pm, undergoing standard security procedures including baggage scanning. Notably, his belongings were limited to a few pairs of clothes, in addition to a list of approved visitors comprising his wife, children, private secretary, and an AAP MP.

Assigned to Ward No. 3 of Tihar Jail No. 2, Kejriwal shares space with other high-profile inmates such as gangster Chhota Rajan and others. Security measures have been heightened with two personnel stationed outside his ward, along with CCTV surveillance. The routine within Tihar Jail, as specified by the jail manual, includes morning openings, meal times, and evening lockdowns, to which Kejriwal will adhere like other prisoners.

Acknowledging Kejriwal’s health concerns, the court has mandated provisions for his prescribed medication, including allowances for specific dietary requirements in case of fluctuating sugar levels. Furthermore, the court has granted permission for Kejriwal to carry necessary medical devices and wear spectacles. Requests for special diets, home-cooked food, and bottled water have also been approved.

In terms of recreational activities, Kejriwal has requested access to books, notepads, and pens, which are subject to approval by jail authorities as per the jail manual. However, if unavailable, he may bring his own materials, subject to scrutiny. A meeting chaired by the Director General (Prisons) and the jail superintendent is underway to review Kejriwal’s requests and make necessary arrangements.

It’s noteworthy that other prominent political figures such as Kejriwal’s former deputy Manish Sisodia, former health minister Satyendar Jain, and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh are also incarcerated in different sections of Tihar Jail. Kejriwal will be permitted to meet his family members twice a week, along with legal consultations as per jail protocols.

In essence, Kejriwal’s stay in Tihar Jail will adhere to established procedures while accommodating his specific needs as directed by the court.
