Delhi Building Collapse: PM Modi Condoles Death, Prays For Injured In Satya Niketan

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of a person in the building collapse at Satya Niketan in Delhi and prayed for the recovery of those injured.

The Prime Minister said authorities were present at the site and assisting people affected by the incident.

The Prime Minister’s Office shared his message on X, in which PM Modi described the collapse as distressing and expressed condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah separately took stock of the situation by speaking to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi Police Commissioner and NDRF Director General.

Shah said the local administration and NDRF were carrying out intensive rescue work and coordinating their efforts at the site. He further said medical assistance was being provided to those injured. Shah cancelled his scheduled programmes in Goa following news of the Delhi tragedy.

Earlier, CM Rekha Gupta said multiple teams had been deployed for the rescue operation. The teams included personnel from DDMA, NDRF, Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, MCD, CATS and Civil Defence.

The Chief Minister said the adjoining building had been vacated as a precaution and that officials were working to rescue anyone trapped in the debris. She further said the situation was being monitored closely and assistance was being extended to affected families.

Incident Details

The collapse occurred near Shiv Mandir in Satya Niketan, RK Puram.

Delhi Police said the building was around 40-50 years old. It had a basement and five upper floors. The building was being used as paying guest accommodation for students.

Repair work was taking place in the basement when the structure collapsed. At least one person was killed, while six people were rescued by first responders. Rescue teams continued searching the debris for anyone who could still be trapped.
