Delhi Building Collapse: Another Body Found, Death Toll Rises To 7

Rescuers found another body inside the basement of the collapsed building in Delhi’s Satya Niketan on Monday, pushing the confirmed death toll to seven.

Emergency personnel worked through the night to clear the wreckage and locate people who may remain trapped.

Officials said students make up a significant number of those feared buried under the debris.

Four injured victims are currently undergoing treatment at the AIIMS Trauma Centre. Doctors discharged another person after monitoring a minor injury.

The five-storey structure, called ‘Hostel Daze’, served as a boys’ PG where several students lived.

Witnesses said a nearby building collapsed, prompting authorities to examine the structural safety of properties in the surrounding area.

Police lodged an FIR against building owner Hariram Bansal and other accused at the South Campus police station. DCP (Southwest) Amit Goel confirmed the registration of the case.

Delhi Police have established 10 teams to track down Bansal following the issuance of a Look Out notice.

Authorities said the building had remained in use for around 40-50 years and consisted of a basement along with five upper floors.

The premises reportedly had capacity for approximately 40 occupants, many of them students from Delhi University’s South Campus.

The structure came down at about 01:30 PM while workers reportedly carried out repair activities in the basement.

Officials are, however, investigating whether heavy rainfall contributed to the collapse.

Delhi Police, the National Disaster Response Force, Delhi Fire Service and Delhi Disaster Management Authority have deployed personnel for the rescue operation.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the location again on Monday morning to assess the ongoing rescue efforts.

CM Gupta said authorities had filed an FIR against the owner and warned that MCD officials would face stringent action if investigators found them guilty of negligence or other lapses.
