Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva strongly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday for delaying the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Standing Committee elections. Speaking to IANS, Sachdeva expressed confusion over AAP’s hesitation, stating, “It shows that you don’t trust your own Councillors.”
Sachdeva accused AAP and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of deliberately stalling the election, questioning the party’s motives. He emphasized the importance of the Standing Committee, which handles key financial and development decisions such as cleanliness, park maintenance, and system management. He added, “If you are still stopping the election, it raises questions.”
The election, initially set for September 26, was postponed by Mayor Shelly Oberoi to October 5. However, under the direction of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, the MCD Commissioner has now rescheduled the election for Friday. Additional Commissioner Jitender Yadav will preside over the election instead of Mayor Oberoi. The Standing Committee election has faced a one-and-a-half-year delay, sparking ongoing political friction.
