Deadly attack on tourists in Goa, questions on Goa police’s bad temper

Unsocial elements in Goa, which are increasing their economy on the basis of tourism, are themselves making the tourists victims of violence. The shameful fact is that even the police of Goa itself appear to be giving protection to the criminal elements. The recent deadly attack on the tourists who was there on holiday from Delhi raises a serious question on the working style of the Goa Police becoming is a vivid example of the unexpected scenario.

The mood of Goa, which fascinates tourists with its beautiful beaches, is changing. The mentality of considering tourists as outsiders can cause huge damage to the tourism industry of the state. Last week, the murderous attack on two families from Delhi who were on a holiday to Goa along with police brutality have raised serious questions on the state’s police machinery. The surprising thing is that the North Goa Police, which registered the case over the matter, has not even made the written complaint of the complainant a part of the FIR. Keeping in mind the sensitivity of the matter, after the intervention of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, sections in the IPC belonging to murderous attacks have been registered in this matter.

This was the attack

In fact, Ashwini Sharma, who lives in East Delhi, went to Goa for a holiday with his wife and sister’s family. All these people who reached Goa on March 5 stayed at the Spazio Leisure Resort. When a waiter working in this hotel located in Anjuna Police Station area misbehaved with him, he complained to the hotel management. The hotel receptionist, who was supporting the waiter earlier, when saw the matter aggravating, sent the waiter on leave for four days. But while leaving, he threatened to “see” Sharma’s family members.

The waiter called goons

Ashwini Sharma says that then after this incident within an hour and a half, when he went out for a walk, he saw that the waiter was standing outside the hotel with some of his friends. The hotel receptionist was also present there with them. Anticipating any untoward incident, Ashwini Sharma took his photo. Seeing this, the receptionist and waiter asked him to delete the photo immediately. When the debate increased on this matter, Ashwini Sharma’s brother-in-law and family members also came out after hearing the noise and soon this debate turned into a scuffle.

Deadly attack by the goons

According to the victim’s family, meanwhile, two or three other companions of the waiter also reached to the spot and joined them. Then all of them attacked the tourists with baseball bats and knives. And then after the attack the all the miscreants ran away from there. But the shameful fact is that the hotel management did not consider it necessary to report the incident to the police. Concerned to save the lives of their blood-soaked relatives, the victim’s family itself informed the police about the incident.

Unexpected attitude of police shocked the tourists

The police also refused to help the tourists who were seriously injured in the deadly attack and were lying in a pool of blood. Somehow the victim’s family made them lie in the police car. Then they also heard the policemen saying that you people have made the whole car dirty. Then the two seriously injured people were taken to the hospital, where the condition of one of them was serious and he was sent to another hospital. But as the bleeding did not stop, he had to be operated upon the next morning.

‘Did not write statement’

When Ashwini Sharma reached the police station after getting bandaged on her hand injury. He showed the photos of the accused miscreants on his mobile and got them all identified in the police station in presence of a police officer. After this, Sharma requested to record his statement citing the injury in his hand. But the police refused to record the statement and asked to get it written from somewhere else. However, he managed to get a complaint written on four pages to the police and returned.

Police did not accept it as a fatal attack

The shameful fact is that the police did not even consider it necessary to register the events mentioned in Ashwini Sharma’s complaint in the FIR. A case was also registered against the goons who carried out the murderous attack under minor sections. The BJP government of Goa woke up from its slumber when the Goa government and the police were criticized badly in social media.

Suspended only one policeman

After the intervention of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, sections of the murderous attack were also added against the accused. Inspector General of Police of Goa, Omvir Bishnoi says that an investigation has been started by suspending the SHO in this matter. But he did not give any answer to the question of not including the written statement in the FIR. And also there was no strict action against other police personnel responsible for the misconduct.
