Dalai Lama Presented With Sacred Kapilavastu Relics of Lord Buddha

In a momentous ceremony held on Thursday morning in Dharamshala, the Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama, was bestowed with the sacred Kapilavastu relics of Lord Buddha. These revered relics, originating from the RajaGuru Sri Subuthi Waskaduwa Maha Viharaya, a prominent Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka, hold profound historical and spiritual significance, linking devotees to the enduring legacy of Lord Buddha.

The Sri Subhuthi Maha Viharaya in Waskaduwa is home to 21 relics of Lord Buddha, carefully preserved over generations. The custodian of these precious Kapilavastu relics, ‘Waskaduwe Mahindawamsa Nayaka Thero,’ has safeguarded and protected them within the premises of the Sri Subhuthi Maha Viharaya.

Earlier in March, the relics of Lord Buddha, along with those of his principal disciples, Arahant Sariputta, and Maha Moggallana, embarked on a 25-day exposition across four cities in Thailand. Organized by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in collaboration with the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), this exposition witnessed an overwhelming response, with over 4 million devotees from Thailand and neighboring countries paying homage to the sacred relics.

Commencing from New Delhi on February 22, the exposition journeyed through Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Ubon Ratchathani, and Krabi provinces, showcasing the enduring reverence for Lord Buddha’s teachings across the Mekong region.

In February, on the auspicious occasion of Chotrul Duechen, the Dalai Lama delivered a poignant teaching from the Jataka Tales at the Main Tibetan Temple, Tsuglagkhang, situated in the picturesque hill town of Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.

Attended by more than 3000 Tibetan followers, including Buddhist monks, nuns, and international devotees, the event commemorated the “Great Day of Miraculous Manifestations,” one of the four Buddhist festivals honoring pivotal events in the life of Buddha.
