Cyclone Mandous: Mamallapuram’ Costal Demon

Cyclone Mandous: which is likely to bring heavy rain with strong winds, with a wind speed gusting up to 85 kmph. The strom maym hit the north Tamil Nadu coast, Mamallapuram on midnight of December 9.

As per the warning for heavy rain, a holiday has been set for schools and colleges. In the districts of Chennai, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Ranipet, Vellore, Villupuram, Thiruvarur, Perambalur, Kallakurichi, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Ariyalur, Dharmapuri,

The cyclone, which developed at almost midnight is reported by the Regional Meteorological Centre of Chennai. Approximately 350 kilometres to the east-southeast of Karaikal and 440 km to the southeast of Chennai, it is now over the southwest Bay of Bengal on December 7.

It is highly likely to remain a Severe Cyclonic Storm until the morning of December 9 before gradually weakening into a cyclonic storm by the afternoon of that day.

After that, the system would continue moving west-northwest, passing across Mamallapuram, Puducherry, and the adjacent south Andhra Pradesh beaches between Puducherry and Sriharikota.

Up to December 10,2022 the cyclone might have a significant influence on the State.

Cyclone Mandous: Rain Intensity

The intensity of the rain may reach its height as the storm approaches the shore . A severe rainstorm would hit eight districts, including Ranipet and Kallukurichi (up to 20 cm). Heavy rain is possible in isolated Delta districts, 15 other districts, including Ariyalur and Namakkal.

Chennai may need to prepare for severe to extremely heavy rain that might reach 20 cm. On December 9, rain may be exceptionally heavy in a few locations over Kancheepuram, Puducherry, Chengalpattu, and Villupuram.

After the storm makes landfall on 10th there were severe to very heavy rain, specially across states  northern regions . It is anticipated to weaken to a moderate intensity in other areas.

According to authorities, the cyclone’s effect on northerly winds caused a chill in the air in Chennai.

Mr. Balachandran, Additional Director General of Meteorology, Chennai, said diurnal fluctuations during the day and windshear will temporarily reduced the progress and intensification of the weather system. But the cyclone intensified by early morning.

The power and movement of a cyclone are influenced by a number of variables, including internal dynamics and outside forces. As each cyclone has its own dynamics, we cannot compare them.

The RMC on 9th December,2022 expects higher winds with gusts of up to 80 kmph. Low-lying locations in the northern coastal region may be submerged by a storm surge of around 0.5 m height as it makes landfall.

Cyclone Mandous: Declared holidays

All public and private schools in Puducherry and Kariakal will be closed on  9 and 10 of December.

Exams are postponed which were supposed to be held today , according to the University of Madras, the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, the Anna University, and the Bharathidasan University.
