Cyclone Dana, poised to hit the Odisha coast on Thursday night, will also affect the weather in Bihar, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). As the cyclone intensifies and moves toward Odisha, it may bring winds of up to 120 km/h upon landfall.
The impact of Cyclone Dana will extend into West Bengal and further inland to Bihar, where residents can expect strong winds, rainfall, and thunderstorms, along with the possibility of lightning. In particular, winds in Bihar may reach speeds of 40 to 50 km/h. Therefore, authorities urge residents, especially those in vulnerable structures such as slums and kutcha houses, to take necessary precautions.

The IMD has identified 19 districts in Bihar that may experience the cyclone’s effects, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. Districts under alert include Kishanganj, Araria, Purnea, Katihar, Bhagalpur, Samastipur, Begusarai, Supaul, Jamui, Munger, Saharsa, Banka, and Madhepura. Notably, even the state capital, Patna, is likely to see weather changes between October 24 and October 26.
As a result, the IMD has issued a thunderstorm warning for most of the region, highlighting potential disruptions due to high winds and rainfall. Additionally, the aftermath of the cyclone may trigger a drop in temperatures, signaling the arrival of colder weather in the state.
Residents in affected areas should stay indoors during the cyclone and avoid travel during heavy rain and strong winds. The IMD also warns of potential power outages and damage to vulnerable structures.
In light of the cyclone’s anticipated impact, the Indian Railways has canceled multiple train services from October 24 to October 29. Among the cancellations is the Patna Puri Special train scheduled for October 24, affecting many travelers in the region.
