Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Neeraj Chopra and Yash Vir Singh after the Indian pair secured silver and bronze, respectively, in the men’s javelin throw at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.
Congratulating Neeraj, the Prime Minister said the Olympic champion had once again displayed remarkable consistency, composure and spirit. He added that Neeraj’s achievements make every Indian proud and wished him success in his future endeavours.

PM Modi also praised Yash Vir Singh for winning the bronze medal, saying the young athlete delivered an impressive performance that reflected his dedication and determination. He said Yashvir’s achievement would inspire many young athletes and extended his best wishes for the future.

Neeraj claimed the silver medal with a season-best throw of 85.83 metres after opening with 80.97m and improving in his second attempt.
Sri Lanka’s RT Pathirage won the gold medal with a Games record throw of 89.75m, while Yash Vir secured bronze with a personal best of 85.41m, finishing just 42 centimetres behind Neeraj.
India finished the men’s javelin competition with two medals, as Neeraj added another major international podium finish to his career and Yash Vir celebrated his maiden Commonwealth Games medal with a personal-best performance.
