The Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) has written to the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, urging him to postpone the INDIA bloc’s November 1 rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan until after Bhai Dooj on November 10.
In its letter, CTI chairman Brijesh Goyal warned that the rally could disrupt business worth Rs 10,000 crore during the peak Diwali shopping season. He said the event could affect wholesale and retail markets around Ramlila Maidan as traders prepare for a surge in customers ahead of Dhanteras and Diwali.
Brijesh Goyal said Delhi typically records business worth around Rs 25,000 crore across several sectors during the Dhanteras period. These include gold and silver, electronics, clothing, utensils, dry fruits, sweets, automobiles, property and gift items.
This year, Dhanteras falls on November 6, while Diwali will be celebrated on November 8. Bhai Dooj follows on November 10.
CTI has asked Gandhi to reschedule the rally to avoid potential disruption during this crucial trading period.
The organisation’s appeal comes as traders prepare for increased consumer spending and higher footfall in markets ahead of the festivals.
The proposed rally is scheduled for November 1 at Ramlila Maidan, a prominent venue in the national capital.
The CTI has raised concerns about the possible impact on businesses operating in and around the area.
