In a case concerning the tragic death of a woman due to electrocution at New Delhi Railway Station, the court has voiced dissatisfaction over the non-appearance of the investigating officer during the hearing. ACMM Anuj Kumar Singh, presiding over the proceedings at Tis Hazari court, directed the concerned Deputy Commissioner of Police to ensure the officer’s presence at the next hearing.
Advocate G.K., representing the victim Bharti and Tanishk Khurana, informed the court that the police had registered a case against seven railway officials under incorrect sections. Furthermore, despite the filing of a criminal case, the Railways declined to grant sanction for the prosecution of these officers in connection with the electrocution incident. Advocate Bharti emphasized the need to rectify this discrepancy by urging the court to instruct the investigating officers to register the case under the appropriate sections.
Due to the absence of the investigating officer, arguments remained incomplete, prompting the court to reschedule the hearing for May 13. The court explicitly directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police to ensure the officer’s attendance. The case involves a complaint against Railway’s SSE Power Supply Bharat Bhushan, Gopal Kumar, Technician Jagdish Kumar, Sita Ram, Wireman Narayan Singh, Manish Kumar, and Deepak Kumar. The victim, Sakshi Ahuja, tragically lost her life on June 23, 2023, due to electrocution.
Sakshi Ahuja, accompanied by her sister and two children, had arrived at New Delhi Railway Station early in the morning to inquire about a train to Chandigarh. Sadly, she suffered an electric shock, allegedly due to exposed wires on an electric pole lacking insulation or warning signs. The court proceedings aim to address these critical safety lapses and ensure accountability in the tragic incident.”
