Atal Setu
The country’s longest sea bridge, Atal Setu, is ready. PM Modi is going to inaugurate this Mumbai Trans Harbor Sealink (MTHL). Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that Atal Setu or Mumbai Trans Harbor Sealink (MTHL) will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow i.e. on January 12. Sealink will be the longest sea bridge in the country.
177,903 metric tons of steel used in the construction of MTHL
The 22 km long six-lane bridge connecting Sewri to Nhava-Sheva includes a 16.5 km long sea link and a 5.5 km long land bridge. 177,903 metric tons of steel and 504,253 metric tons of cement were used in the construction of MTHL. Currently, there are two access points to Navi Mumbai – one from the Airoli-Mulund connector and the other from the Vashi connector. If someone is going to Alibaug or Matheran or Lonavala, they go through these connectors with heavy traffic. Seen as a boon in a city known for traffic jams, MTHL will reduce travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

Connectivity to MTHL from the Mumbai side will be at Sewri with an interchange that will connect MTHL to the Eastern Freeway and the under construction Worli Sewri Connector.
MTHL connectivity towards Navi Mumbai is at 3 locations:
Shivaji Nagar Interchange towards Navi Mumbai: Shivaji Nagar Interchange along CIDCO’s proposed coastal road will provide connectivity with Navi Mumbai International Airport and JNPT.
Interchange on National Highway 4B near Jasai: This interchange will provide connectivity with Panvel, Uran and JNPT
It is being said that once inaugurated, MTHL is expected to ply 39,300 vehicles per day between Sewri and Shivaji Nagar Interchange, while 9,800 vehicles will ply between Shivaji Nagar and Chirle Interchange.
