Counting Trends By 12:30 PM: BJP Leads Big In Bengal As PM Modi’s Old Video Resurfaces

A past statement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has resurfaced during the ongoing counting of votes in West Bengal, drawing renewed attention as early results suggest a strong showing for the Bharatiya Janata Party.

In the earlier clip, delivered during celebrations following the BJP’s victory in Bihar, PM Modi had linked electoral momentum in Bihar to prospects in West Bengal, expressing confidence about the party’s future in the state.

Counting trends are now driving the remark’s widespread circulation.

According to data available around 12:30 PM on the Election Commission of India portal, leads had been declared in 266 out of 293 constituencies.

BJP candidates were ahead in 173 seats, while the ruling All India Trinamool Congress was leading in 90. The Left Front–AISF alliance and the Aam Janata Unnayan Party each held leads in one constituency.

Among individual contests, Humayun Kabir of the AJUP was leading in Rejinagar in Murshidabad district.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was ahead in the Bhabanipur constituency in south Kolkata against BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari. Adhikari, however, was leading in Nandigram in East Midnapore, where he is also contesting.

Officials have issued guidelines to maintain order during and after the counting process.

West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal stated that victory processions would require prior approval from district authorities and urged political parties to ensure calm following the announcement of results.

To prevent post-election unrest, the Election Commission has decided to keep 700 companies of central forces deployed in the state until further notice, recalling incidents of violence reported after the 2021 elections.

Separately, repolling for the entire Falta constituency in South 24 Parganas district will take place on May 21, and the result will come out on May 24.
