Congress MGNREGA Became A Corruption Hub; Says BJP MP Dinesh Sharma

Rajya Sabha MP and former Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dr Dinesh Sharma accused the Congress of turning MGNREGA into a corrupt scheme that failed to deliver real rural jobs.

Addressing a Kisan-Shramik Chaupal under the GRAMJI Bill Jan Jagran Abhiyan in Sikandarpur Khurd and Bagulaha villages, Dr Sharma criticised the Congress-era MGNREGA. He said the scheme became a favourite tool for corrupt elements.

He claimed authorities repeatedly sanctioned the same works, such as digging ponds multiple times, only to siphon off public money.

Dr Sharma said villagers did not receive employment within their villages, forcing them to migrate for work.

Farmers also struggled to find labourers during sowing and harvesting seasons. Dr Sharma added that despite large fund allocations, the scheme showed little visible work because of fund misappropriation and weak monitoring mechanisms.

The BJP leader said the Modi government introduced a well-structured GRAMJI scheme to bring meaningful change to rural India.

He described the initiative as the key to making villages self-reliant and prosperous.

Dr Sharma said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a clear goal to make India a developed nation by 2047.

He stressed that true development will come when farmers and villagers achieve prosperity without leaving their homes.

The BJP leader said villages before 2014 faced poor infrastructure, unsafe power lines, waterlogging, and weak sanitation.

He said the Modi and Yogi governments have delivered paved roads, reliable power, cleanliness, and round-the-clock electricity in villages.

Dr Sharma criticised earlier governments for relying on slogans instead of results. Referring to the ‘Garibi Hatao’ slogan, he said poverty only worsened during that period.

In contrast, he credited Prime Minister Modi with genuinely improving the living standards of the poor.

He said the government achieved this by implementing Deendayal Upadhyaya’s philosophy of inclusive development.

Dr Sharma said the Modi government ensured direct benefit transfers through Jan Dhan accounts, eliminating leakages.

He claimed that earlier governments delivered only ₹15 out of every ₹100 to beneficiaries, while the current government transfers the entire amount directly.

Dr Sharma added that the government has provided free housing, rural roads, doorstep electricity connections, and lifted 25 crore people out of poverty.

Former Union Minister Kaushal Kishor also addressed the programme, calling current schemes an ‘Amrit Kumbh’ for farmers. Several BJP leaders and local representatives attended the event.
