Congress Deputy Leader In LS: We Don’t Want Manipur Like Situation In Tripura

Congress Deputy Leader in LS Ranjan Gogoi and LS Member, former Union Minister Tariq Anwar along with other senior Congress leader met Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu over ongoing violence in the state.

Gogoi said that his party doesn’t want ethnic violence like Manipur to take place in Tripura. He further said that Congress wants equal justice for everyone and each community. He said that the Congress wanted justice for the youth who was killed and the affected people in the recent ethnic violence in Ganda Twisa.

Congress leaders discussed violence during Panchayat elections in the state and recent ethnic violence in Ganda Twisa in the state’s Dhalai district with Governor Nallu.

On July 12, following the death of a tribal college student, a large scale violence erupted in Ganda Twisa. Later Reang succumbed to his injuries. Tribal studet Parameshwar Reang was assaulted on July 7,

The horrific violence led to the displacement of over 300 villagers who took shelter in camps. Tripura government has announced an ex-gratia of 1.60 crore to the 166 affected families.

Gogoi is elected to the Lok Sabha from Assam’s Jorhat Parliamentary constituency. He claimed that the law and order situation has collapsed in Tripura, democracy and the Constitution are now under threat. He further said that the people are not getting due justice from the authority.

Panchayat election in tripura to take place on August 8

“Our party leaders in Tripura from time to time inform the police authority about the violence in Ganda Twisa and violent incidents relating to the upcoming Panchayat elections, but the government is not taking any steps and actions against the perpetrators,” he said.

Tariq Anwar said that the panchayat poll on August 8 “should be held in a free, fair and transparent manner allowing all parties to participate in the entire electoral process”. Anwar is a member of the Congress Working Committee,

Earlier in the day, the Tripura High Court made a direction regarding panchayat election. The court ordered the State Election Commission (SEC) to conduct free and fair three-tier Gram Panchayats elections on August 8.
