The Congress party has raised serious concerns regarding the prolonged delay in the formation of a new government in Jharkhand, accusing it of violating the constitutional norms and disregarding the public’s mandate.
In a strongly worded statement, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the Governor for what he termed as “undermining Indian democracy” by not taking swift action to facilitate the formation of the government. Kharge highlighted that despite having the support of 48 MLAs out of 81, the Governor has failed to invite Champai Soren to form the government, which, according to Kharge, is a clear violation of the constitutional principles and a denial of the public’s mandate.
Kharge’s remarks came after Champai Soren, the leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) legislative party, met with Governor CP Radhakrishnan to urge for the initiation of the government formation process without further delay.
Following Hemant Soren’s resignation as Chief Minister and subsequent arrest by the Enforcement Directorate, Champai Soren was elected as the new leader of the JMM legislature party. However, the delay in government formation has sparked concerns among opposition leaders, who fear political injustice.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized the political developments in Jharkhand, labeling them as yet another example of political injustice orchestrated by the Prime Minister and Home Minister duo. Ramesh accused them of allowing time for what he referred to as ‘horse-trading’, which, according to him, not only undermines democracy but also amounts to its murder.
Echoing similar sentiments, Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi questioned whether the Centre intends to impose President’s Rule in Jharkhand, hinting at the possibility of a deeper political agenda behind the delay in government formation.
