CM Yogi Adityanath Expands UP Cabinet Ahead Of 2027 Assembly Elections

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday carried out a major expansion of his Council of Ministers ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The state government inducted six new Ministers and promoted two existing Ministers of State as part of the reshuffle.

Governor Anandiben Patel administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly appointed Ministers during an event organised at Raj Bhavan in Lucknow.

Former Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary took oath as a Cabinet Minister, highlighting his increasing role within the party, especially in western Uttar Pradesh.

Former Samajwadi Party MLA Manoj Pandey, who recently joined the BJP, also became part of the Cabinet.

The government additionally included Surendra Diler, Krishna Paswan, Hansraj Vishwakarma, and Kailash Rajput in the Ministry. At the same time, Ministers of State Ajit Pal and Somendra Tomar received promotions.

Political experts believe the Cabinet reshuffle forms part of the BJP’s wider social and electoral strategy before the upcoming Assembly elections.

Among the newly inducted ministers, one leader belongs to the Brahmin community. Three represent Other Backward Classes (OBCs), while two are from Dalit communities.

Observers suggest that Manoj Pandey’s inclusion may improve the BJP’s appeal among Brahmin voters.

Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary’s appointment is also expected to strengthen the party’s influence among Jat communities. It may also help the BJP consolidate support in western Uttar Pradesh.

The Cabinet expansion also signals the BJP leadership’s effort to maintain regional balance. It is also aimed at improving coordination with alliance partners before the high-profile 2027 polls.

After taking the oath, Krishna Paswan said the governments led by PM Modi and CM Yogi would continue accelerating development work across Uttar Pradesh. He said the focus would remain on speeding up development initiatives in the state.

The Yogi government last expanded its Cabinet on March 5, 2024, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

During that reshuffle, Om Prakash Rajbhar, Dara Singh Chauhan, Anil Kumar, and Sunil Sharma joined the Ministry.

According to constitutional provisions, Uttar Pradesh can have a maximum of 60 Ministers, including the Chief Minister. Before the latest expansion, the Cabinet had 54 Ministers, and the government has now filled all six vacant positions.
