CM Samrat Choudhary Meets Nitish Kumar After Bihar Assembly Confidence Vote

Following his successful confidence vote in the Bihar Assembly, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary visited the official residence at 1, Anee Marg on Saturday to meet former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

The meeting lasted around 20 minutes. Union Minister and JD(U) MP Rajiv Ranjan Singh, widely known as Lalan Singh, also attended it.

No formal statement emerged, and the talks likely focused on the expected expansion of the state Cabinet.

CM Choudhary had secured a majority support in the Assembly a day earlier. During the debate ahead of the floor test, he spoke highly of Nitish Kumar, emphasising the former leader’s lasting influence on Bihar’s governance and development.

The Bihar CM credited Nitish Kumar with bringing structural changes over the past two decades, including improvements in governance, expansion of employment opportunities, and welfare measures for farmers, labourers and marginalised communities. He also referred to initiatives such as prohibition and efforts aimed at empowering women.

The Chief Minister underlined that holding office brings responsibility rather than personal entitlement. He noted that the public entrusts leadership roles.

At present, the Bihar Cabinet has not been expanded since the new government took charge. CM Choudhary is currently handling administrative responsibilities, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav.

Political observers expect the Cabinet to be enlarged in the near future, as discussions around ministerial appointments continue.

Earlier in the day, Nitish Kumar had also held a separate meeting with Bijendra Prasad Yadav to review key matters concerning the state.
