CM Nitish Transfers ₹5,000 To Construction Workers On Vishwakarma Puja, PM Modi’s Birthday

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Wednesday transferred ₹5,000 each to the bank accounts of 16.4 lakh construction workers across the state. The transfer, made under the Annual Clothing Assistance Scheme, totalled ₹802.46 crore.

The Chief Minister timed the move with Vishwakarma Puja and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, linking the initiative to both a religious occasion and a political milestone.

In Patna, Nitish Kumar, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, launched the Pratigya web portal dedicated to contractual workers. He said the initiative aims to recognise and honour the contribution of labourers.

“Our working brothers and sisters are the real strength. Without their development, Bihar’s progress is incomplete,” Nitish Kumar said.

Political Reactions

Political observers described the direct cash transfer as a significant electoral step by the JD(U)-BJP alliance ahead of the upcoming elections. They noted that the move offers not just economic relief but also sends a strong message to the working class.

JD(U) and BJP leaders hailed the scheme as proof of their government’s commitment to workers’ welfare. In contrast, Congress and RJD leaders accused Nitish Kumar of using the state exchequer to woo voters.

CM Nitish Extends Wishes to PM Modi

Alongside the announcement, Nitish Kumar extended birthday wishes to PM Modi, praising his leadership and contribution to the nation’s progress.

Observers read the gesture as a reaffirmation of Nitish’s ties with the BJP-led central leadership.

Observers believe the ₹5,000 assistance, announced just ahead of the festive season, could emerge as a powerful electoral tool for the JD(U)-BJP alliance. They argue that the initiative may help mobilise worker support.

They also believe it could reinforce the political partnership at the state and national levels.
