Cloudburst Wreaks Havoc In Himachal’s Kinnaur; Vehicles Swept Away

A cloudburst struck the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh early Friday, unleashing flash floods and widespread destruction in Thach village. The incident occurred around 12:10 AM, triggering a surge in three adjoining mountain streams.

The powerful torrents swept away two vehicles and damaged fields, orchards, and homes. Residents fled their houses in panic and rushed into nearby forests for safety.

Vehicles belonging to Praveen Moyan and Hari Bisht were washed away in the deluge. In Mastan village, floodwaters swept away parts of homes and a cowshed. Several orchards were destroyed, while houses belonging to Ranveer and three others now face imminent collapse.

Heavy Rains Disrupt Life in Shimla

In the state capital, Shimla, a landslide near Edward School forced the closure of the vital Circular Road and disrupted traffic. In Kumarsain’s Karevathi area, a three-storey house collapsed under the impact of continuous rainfall.

So far, monsoon-related disasters have claimed 424 lives in Himachal Pradesh this year. Damages are mounting daily as rains continue to batter the state.

On September 17, flash floods and landslides killed four people and left six missing across different districts. Over 650 roads, including three National Highways, remain blocked, crippling access to electricity, drinking water, and essential services.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has declared Himachal Pradesh a disaster-hit state. He estimated cumulative losses of over ₹20,000 crore in the past three years and appealed to the Centre for urgent financial aid and comprehensive relief.

Earlier Cloudburst in Mandi

Just a day earlier, on September 16, another cloudburst in Mandi district’s Dharampur area wreaked havoc. Floodwaters washed away HRTC buses, private vehicles, homes, and shops. Locals described the devastation as worse than the 2015 floods, with the Saun rivulet overflowing and submerging large areas.

Relentless rains continue to pound Himachal Pradesh, leaving a trail of destruction and pushing both residents and the administration to the brink.
