CISF Conducts ‘Agni Chakra’ Mock Aircraft Crash Drill At Delhi Airport

The Central Industrial Security Force conducted a full-scale aircraft crash mock exercise, ‘Agni Chakra’, at Indira Gandhi International Airport to test emergency response mechanisms and coordination among agencies involved in airport security and disaster management.

The exercise simulated crash-landing conditions at the airport and involved a large number of CISF personnel carrying out rescue and response operations in coordination with multiple stakeholders managing airport operations.

Personnel from Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF), Delhi Police, Bomb Disposal and Detection Squad (BDDS), medical teams, airlines and ground handling agencies also participated in the drill.

During the exercise, CISF personnel swiftly cordoned off the simulated crash site, regulated access control and assisted in evacuation and rescue efforts.

The drill evaluated inter-agency communication, casualty handling, crisis management and emergency response systems.

Officials said the exercise reaffirmed the preparedness of the CISF and associated agencies in handling aviation-related emergencies and unforeseen incidents at one of the country’s busiest airports.

The CISF regularly conducts mock exercises to enhance operational readiness.

Two months ago, the force organised a counter-terrorism mock drill at the IGI Airport to assess preparedness against evolving security threats and improve seamless coordination among agencies.

Apart from aviation security, the CISF is responsible for safeguarding airports and key public sector establishments across India.

Established in 1969 under the Ministry of Home Affairs with an initial strength of 2,800 personnel, the force now plays a major role in industrial security, disaster response and consultancy services for government and private organisations.

The exercise also saw participation from the CISF dog squad, DGCA, Delhi Fire Services and medical response teams.

The force’s dedicated fire wing is trained to respond to industrial and aviation emergencies, including accidents and disaster situations.
