China’s Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, on Monday highlighted the enduring spirit of cooperation between the two nations during a seminar at the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi.
The event marked the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Ambassador Xu stressed the importance of deepening India-China relations in a rapidly changing global order. He said friendly cooperation has always remained the dominant theme despite challenges.
Ambassador Xu referred to recent meetings between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kazan and Tianjin, which, he said, charted a positive path for the future.
“We should see each other as partners in cooperation and as opportunities for development, not threats,” he urged.
He also noted growing cultural and economic exchanges, revealing that over 240,000 visas were issued to Indian citizens this year.
He expressed China’s readiness to enhance ties across sectors such as political parties, legislatures, think tanks, media, and youth to strengthen people-to-people connections.
Reflecting on the seminar’s theme, Xu stressed the need to preserve peace and learn from history. He warned of rising unilateralism and turbulence, saying humanity faces a choice between dialogue and confrontation.
The ambassador said China is ready to work with Global South nations, including India, to promote a correct view of World War II, practise multilateralism, and oppose power politics. He urged both countries to shape the future with cooperation.
“History cannot be changed, but the future can be shaped,” Xu concluded.
He called on both nations to carry forward the spirit of resistance and advance India-China relations with a proactive attitude.
