In a renewed effort to resolve the ongoing protests by junior doctors, Chief Secretary Manoj Pant has sent a fresh invitation to the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Forum (WBJDF) for a crucial meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The meeting is scheduled for 5 PM on Monday at the Chief Minister’s official residence in Kalighat, South Kolkata.
The invitation follows an earlier attempt on Saturday that did not reach a resolution.
The Chief Secretary’s email specified that the same delegation who attended the previous meeting should arrive by 4:45 PM at the venue.
“This is the fifth and final time we are reaching out to you for a meeting between the Honourable Chief Minister and your delegates. In line of the discussion on the day before, we are once again inviting you to a meeting with the Honourable Chief Minister at her Kalighat residence for a discussion with an open mind,” the email stated.
The Chief Secretary noted that they will not live-stream or record the meeting due to the ongoing Supreme Court proceedings. Instead, both parties will document and sign the minutes of the meeting.
The email concluded with a call for a positive response, expressing hope for a productive discussion.
As of the latest update, the junior doctors, who continue their sit-in protest outside Swastha Bhavan, the state health department headquarters in Salt Lake, have not yet responded to the latest invitation.
In related developments, a pivotal Supreme Court hearing concerning the rape and murder case of a junior doctor is likely for Tuesday.
Senior advocate and social activist Indira Jaising will represent the WBJDF at the hearing.
