Pinarayi Vijayan
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan slammed the makers of ‘The Kerala Story’ film on Sunday, accusing them of promoting Sangh Parivar propaganda by raising the issue of ‘love jihad’ — a concept rejected by the courts, investigating agencies, and even the Union Home Ministry.
“The trailer of the Hindi film, at first glance, appears to be deliberately produced” with the alleged aim of creating communal polarisation and spreading hate propaganda against the state”, said Mr. Vijayan.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan claimed that despite the fact that the subject of ‘love jihad’ had been dismissed by investigating agencies, courts, and the MHA, it was being revived in connection with Kerala as the film’s fundamental premise merely to embarrass the state in front of the world.
In a statement, the Chief Minister said, “Such propaganda films and the alienation of Muslims depicted in them should be viewed in the context of Sangh Parivar’s efforts to gain political advantage in Kerala”.
He further accused the Sangh Parivar of attempting to sever the state’s religious unity by sowing the poisonous seeds of communalism.
Both the ruling CPI(M) in Kerala and the opposition Congress attacked the controversial upcoming movie ‘The Kerala Story’, claiming that freedom of expression was not a licence to spew hate in society, and the film was an attempt to ruin the state’s communal harmony.
‘The Kerala Story’, written and directed by Sudipto Sen, is described as “unearthing” the event behind approximately 32,000 women purportedly going missing in the southern state. The film incorrectly alleges that they converted, became radicalized, and were used in terror missions throughout India and the world.
