Chamoli Cloudburst: CM Dhami Reviews Relief Work; Assures Full Support

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday visited Tharali in Chamoli district to review rescue and relief operations after a cloudburst struck late Friday night.

The disaster caused massive destruction, and officials confirmed that at least two people have gone missing.

During the visit, locals stopped CM Dhami’s convoy and voiced their anguish. They urged him to inspect the worst-hit areas, especially Chepdo, and demanded urgent road clearance to connect the upper villages.

CM Dhami Responds to Concerns

The Chief Minister assured villagers that road-clearing work was underway on a war footing. He promised to personally visit the upper villages with the locals once the route becomes safe.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) later posted on X: “In Tharali, Honourable Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami bypassed protocol, directly interacted with villagers, and listened to their problems.”

CM Dhami also visited Kulsari, where he inspected a disaster relief camp, interacted with affected families, and promised full government support. He sought feedback on facilities at the camp and instructed officials to ensure timely assistance without inconvenience to victims.

The Chief Minister announced ₹5 lakh in immediate financial aid for families whose houses were completely destroyed and for the kin of those who lost their lives. He said the government has already begun arrangements to rehabilitate homeless families in Tharali.

Teams of the Indian Army, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have stepped up rescue and relief efforts.

Police, the Disaster Management Department, and the District Administration are also actively assisting at the affected sites.
