Centre’s Goal Is To Establish Evidence-Based Criminal Justice System, Says Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said the Central government aims to build a foolproof, evidence-based criminal justice system.

He said technology will play a crucial role in achieving this goal.

Shah stressed that the new system must be based on evidence, not debate, to eliminate all doubt in the justice process.

“At the same time, our goal is to make the criminal justice system evidence-based and not debate-based, so that there is no room for doubt in the system. This will ensure that the real culprit does not get the benefit of the doubt and at the same time ensure justice for the victims,” the Union Home Minister noted.

Shah made these remarks while inaugurating the new Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CSFL) building at Rajarhat on the northern outskirts of Kolkata. He highlighted the growing importance of technology in law enforcement and crime investigation.

Technology To Keep Investigators Ahead

Shah said investigators must stay two steps ahead of criminals. He added that this would only be possible through technology.

The Union Home Minister pointed to DNA sequencing and forensic audits as game-changers.

“Because of DNA sequencing, we have been able to solve criminal cases which were 20 years old. Because of forensic audits, several financial crimes have been solved,” he said.

Shah underlined that building a foolproof, evidence-based criminal justice system would depend on scientific tools and expertise. He said the country needs strong forensic support to convict criminals and deliver justice.

₹2,800 Crore Boost To Forensic Infrastructure

The Union Home Minister announced a ₹2,800 crore plan to modernise forensic science facilities across India. He also said the government will set up a National Forensic Data Centre at a cost of ₹200 crore.

This new facility will store vast amounts of forensic data. Artificial intelligence will analyse this data to help investigators.

“This will make the process of entering into a foolproof, evidence-based criminal justice system much smoother,” Shah added.

The new data centre will support state police forces and central agencies.

Shah said it would improve speed, accuracy, and transparency in investigations. He noted that such steps are essential for a justice system rooted in hard evidence.

Later in the day, Shah is scheduled to address a political rally at Netaji Indoor Stadium in Central Kolkata. State BJP leaders from all levels will attend the event.

At the rally, Shah is expected to lay out the BJP’s plans for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections next year.
