Centre Will Restore West Bengal’s Industrial Glory, Says Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said the Narendra Modi-led Central government will do whatever is necessary to restore West Bengal’s lost industrial glory and accelerate the state’s development.

Speaking at the virtual inauguration of a curd factory at Sankrail in Howrah district, Shah alleged that the previous Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government had discouraged industrialists and investors from investing in the state.

The Minister said West Bengal once enjoyed a vibrant industrial ecosystem alongside its rich cultural heritage, but both had declined under the previous regime. He added that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has always respected the state and asserted that the Union Government would ensure the development of West Bengal.

Shah linked the inauguration of the curd factory to the BJP’s victory in the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly elections, describing it as the largest industrial project launched since the party formed the government in the state. He said the factory was a ‘sweet gift’ from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed confidence that its products would gain nationwide acceptance.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who was present at the event, said the new curd factory would provide financial benefits to around 36 lakh cowherds by creating a stable market for milk procurement. He stressed that a strong cooperative system is essential to strengthen the state’s economy and said local dairy farmers should be integrated with the project.

Adhikari also criticised the previous government, alleging it had failed to strengthen the cooperative sector and relied on ‘imaginary data’ to project industrial development.
