Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya chaired a high-level meeting today to assess the country’s preparations as various states continue to be affected by the extreme heat.
Mansukh Mandaviya stated that a five-member delegation comprised of senior officials from the Health Ministry and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) will tour heat-affected states.
He also stated that the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has been ordered to provide measures to mitigate the negative effects of the heatwave.
Mr. Mandaviya explained, “Arrangements will be made at all levels to protect common life.” “We want to make sure that no one dies from heat stroke”.
He stated that a virtual meeting will be organized with the health ministers of the states experiencing extreme heat.
The weather service has forecast severe to very severe heatwave conditions in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Vidarbha, Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
According to the IMD, the heatwave across east India and neighboring central India is expected to end tomorrow.
Heat stroke deaths have been reported in numerous states recently, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Odisha. As a result of the sweltering heat, numerous states have extended their summer holidays.
Previously, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that most of India would see above-average maximum temperatures from April through June.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority, a heatwave is a period of extremely high temperatures that are higher than the typical maximum temperature that happens throughout the summer.
Heatwaves are most common between March and June, although in rare situations, they might last into July.
