CCS Expresses Concern Over Safety Of Indian Expatriates, Reviews West Asia Escalation

Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) was briefed on the air strikes in Iran on February 28 and the subsequent escalation in West Asia, along with the security situation concerning Indian citizens in the region.

The meeting, convened under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, reviewed the rapidly evolving developments in West Asia.

The CCS, India’s apex decision-making body on security and strategic affairs, met against the backdrop of a deteriorating geopolitical environment following coordinated US-Israeli airstrikes on Iran that have intensified regional tensions and heightened global security concerns.

Senior Ministers In Attendance

The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.

According to an official statement, the Committee was informed about the February 28 air strikes in Iran and the ensuing escalation, including attacks reported in several Gulf countries.

Concern Over Indian Expatriates

“It expressed serious concern over the safety and security of the large Indian expatriate community in the region,” the statement said.

The CCS also reviewed the difficulties faced by Indian travellers transiting through the region and students scheduled to appear for examinations, besides examining the broader implications for regional security, economic stability and commercial activities.

“The CCS directed all concerned departments to take necessary and feasible measures to assist Indian nationals affected by the developments. It underscored the importance of an early cessation of hostilities and a return to dialogue and diplomacy,” the official statement added.

India has maintained a balanced approach to the Middle East crisis, calling for de-escalation while prioritising the protection of its citizens and economic interests. The meeting marks the latest in a series of high-level security assessments amid mounting global tensions.
