CBI To Seek AIIMS Expertise For DNA, Forensic Evidence to Confirm Sanjay Roy’s Sole Involvement In Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) plans to consult experts from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) regarding DNA and forensic reports to determine if more than one person was involved in the rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The CBI is seeking AIIMS Delhi’s expertise to ensure a thorough investigation and build a strong case.

Current leads suggest that Sanjay Roy might be the sole perpetrator, but the involvement of additional suspects will be confirmed only after AIIMS experts review the reports. The incident occurred in the hospital’s seminar hall, where the victim was found with severe injuries on the morning of August 9. She had been on a 36-hour shift and was reportedly attacked by Roy, who was captured on CCTV footage entering the seminar hall at 4:03 AM on August 9.

Sanjay Roy was arrested on August 10 after the CCTV footage showed him at the crime scene. During his interrogation, police noted injuries on Roy’s left cheek, abrasions on his left hand, and injuries on his left thigh, indicating a struggle. Sanjay Roy also underwent a lie-detector test. Initially, Roy confessed to the crime but later declared his innocence in court.

Additionally, polygraph tests were conducted on Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the medical college, four doctors who were on duty with the victim, and another civic volunteer. The victim’s family has suggested the possibility of multiple assailants, but no evidence has emerged to support claims of gang rape.
