CBI To Question Sandip Ghosh, Abhijit Mondal In RG Kar Rape-Murder Case

In a significant development in the investigation into the brutal rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is likely to interrogate Sandip Ghosh, Abhijit Mondal together.

Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the medical college, and Abhijit Mondal, the ex-station house officer (SHO) of Tala Police Station, will face joint questioning to address several critical issues arising from the case.

The interrogation follows revelations of nine phone calls exchanged between Ghosh and Mondal on the morning of 9 August, the day when officials discovered the victim’s body within the hospital premises.

CBI officials have obtained these call records, which have raised questions about the nature and timing of their communication.

On Sunday, the CBI’s counsel informed a special court in Kolkata about the multiple calls between the two men, which are now central to the investigation.

Sources suggest that by questioning Ghosh and Mondal together, the CBI aims to uncover the details of their interaction and its potential impact on the case.

Further complicating the matter is the issue of evidence handling.

Mondal and his team, the first responders to the crime scene, and Ghosh, the head of the medical college, allowed numerous individuals to access the area, which potentially compromised crucial evidence.

Authorities arrested both Ghosh and Mondal on Saturday night, charging them with obstructing the initial investigation and tampering with evidence.

Additionally, the investigation has raised concerns about why Ghosh did not file an initial rape complaint and why Mondal did not press for such a report despite the visible signs of the crime on the victim’s body.

On Sunday, the special court remanded Ghosh and Mondal to three days of CBI custody.
