The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has uncovered new evidence in its ongoing probe into the financial irregularities at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, implicating Ashish Pandey, a house staff member at the institution. Investigators have linked Pandey to a broader network of corruption involving former principal Sandip Ghosh, who is already in custody in connection with the case.
Sources within the CBI revealed that Ashish Pandey played a crucial role as a middleman in the multi-crore scam. Pandey allegedly facilitated illegal transactions between contractors who were awarded fraudulent contracts and Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R.G. Kar.

Pandey’s role extended beyond just coordinating these dealings. He is also believed to have connected Ghosh with influential political and administrative figures who benefited from the illegal funds. As Ghosh’s confidant, Pandey reportedly enjoyed significant power within the hospital, controlling several aspects of its operations.
In addition to the financial irregularities, CBI officials are now investigating the legitimacy of Pandey’s appointment as house staff. Several junior doctors at the hospital have questioned how Pandey, whose qualifications are under review, managed to secure the position without following standard recruitment procedures. These concerns have prompted the investigating team to probe further into Pandey’s background and his role in the alleged scam.
Both Sandip Ghosh and Ashish Pandey have been in judicial custody since their arrests by the CBI. Ghosh is also under investigation for his involvement in the brutal rape and murder of a woman doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in August.
Meanwhile, investigators from the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is conducting a parallel probe, have estimated that the total amount involved in the financial scam could exceed Rs 200 crore. As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to uncover more details, potentially implicating other individuals in the network.
The investigation into the financial irregularities at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital has exposed a web of corruption involving key figures at the institution. With both Ghosh and Pandey in custody, authorities are determined to unravel the full extent of the scam and bring those responsible to justice.
