CBI Investigates Overseas Calls Linked To Kolkata Doctor’s Rape-Murder Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently investigating a series of suspicious calls made from an overseas number to key officials and doctors at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

These calls occurred on the morning of 9 August, the same day a junior doctor’s body was tragically found in the hospital’s seminar hall.

Sources say the CBI has tracked the call logs of several hospital staff who were present when the authorities discovered the body.

These logs revealed that some individuals received calls from an international number, raising suspicions about the nature and intent behind these communications.

Investigators believe the overseas number may link to a pre-paid SIM card, making it difficult and time-consuming to trace the owner.

Given the potential complexity of tracking down the details, the CBI has referred the matter to higher authorities, who may seek assistance from the country’s external affairs department to expedite the investigation.

In parallel, the CBI is questioning the hospital officials and doctors who received these calls, aiming to uncover the content of their conversations.

The individuals contacted by this mysterious number are reportedly close associates of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, who is currently in CBI custody for alleged financial misconduct at the hospital.

Authorities however are conducting this investigation into the rape and murder of the junior doctor alongside a separate probe into financial irregularities at the hospital, both under court orders and supervision.

Meanwhile, in a related development, the West Bengal health department suspended Ghosh from state medical services on Tuesday, just a day after his arrest by the CBI.
