CBI Flags Key Discrepancies In RG Kar Medical College Doctor’s Murder Investigation

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has uncovered significant discrepancies in the investigation into the brutal rape and murder of a woman doctor from RG Kar Medical College & Hospital.

These discrepancies involve critical details in the post-mortem report and the seizure list provided by the Kolkata Police, who initially handled the case before the CBI took over on the direction of the Supreme Court.

Sources familiar with the investigation reveal that law enforcement must provide the forensic team with a detailed account of the victim’s clothing when sending a body for post-mortem.

However, the CBI has found inconsistencies between the post-mortem report and the police’s seizure list.

The post-mortem suggests that the victim’s lower garments were missing, yet the seizure list provided by the Kolkata Police mentions the presence of jeans and lower innerwear.

The CBI is now assessing whether these contradictions are due to negligence or if there is a more sinister reason behind them. Investigators are also scrutinizing several lapses in the Kolkata Police’s initial handling of the case.

These include the hasty cremation of the victim’s body, carried out despite her parents’ requests to retain it for further examination; a point recently highlighted by West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose.

In a statement from Raj Bhavan, the Governor raised several concerns regarding the handling of the case.

These include alleged delays in filing the First Information Report (FIR), potential tampering with the crime scene, misinformation given to the victim’s family, and the sudden transfer of the then-principal of the college to another institution.

The Governor also questioned whether these actions were part of a broader attempt to obscure critical details of the investigation.
