CBI Director Praveen Sood, a 1986-batch IPS officer, will retire this month. A three-member panel—PM, CJI, and Opposition Leader—decides the new CBI chief.
The meeting holds key importance for the agency’s direction.
Officials said Rahul Gandhi also received a briefing on the government’s internal discussions after the Pahalgam terror attack. The attack killed 26 civilians.
Gandhi’s presence at the PMO came alongside Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and top military officials.
Sources called this significant amid rising tensions with Pakistan.
Earlier, Defence Secretary Singh met PM Modi separately. They reportedly reviewed India’s military preparedness.
On Sunday, IAF chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh met the PM at his residence. The 45-minute meeting focused on India’s air defence strategy.
A day earlier, PM Modi met Navy chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi. They reviewed maritime security and broader defence readiness.
Sources said the government is weighing calibrated military responses. It has asked the armed forces to stay ready across all domains.
