CBI Arrests Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia In Liquor Policy Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, in connection with an alleged scam related to the excise policy of the Delhi government.

The Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi was arrested after nearly eight hours of questioning by CBI officials.

Prior, Sisodia asserted that he does not care if he has to go to jail over false allegations.

Before going to the CBI headquarters for questioning, Deputy CM told the media, “I can go to jail a number of times and I am not afraid. When I left my job as a journalist, my wife supported me and even today, my family is standing by my side. My workers will take care of my family if I get arrested”.

The CBI had not named Sisodia in the charge sheet as the central probe agency kept the probe open against him and other suspects and accused.

According to an official, “It was claimed that he was not cooperating in the investigation and avoiding clarifications sought by officials on crucial points, leading to his arrest”. “It felt that custodial interrogation is necessary to put Sisodia through intense questioning,” the probe agency officials added.

Earlier, soon after the CBI started questioning Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in connection with an alleged liquor policy scam on Sunday, the city police detained as many as 50 workers and leaders of the ruling Aam Admi Party (AAP).

Delhi Police said, “A total of 50 persons, including 42 men and 8 women, were detained”.

Delhi police further said the AAP workers and prominent leaders, including Sanjay Singh, were detained allegedly for violating Section 144 of the CrPC.
