Buxar Train Derailment: Six Coaches Of Northeast Superfast Train Derail In Accident

Six coaches of the North-East Superfast train derailed at Raghunathpur railway station in Bihar’s Buxar district on a fateful Wednesday evening. The incident occurred during the journey of train number 12506, the North East Express, which was en route from Anand Vihar Terminal to Kamakhya, a station near Guwahati in Assam. This derailment took place near Raghunathpur station within the Danapur division at approximately 9:35 PM.

Mishap led to

The mishap led to a state of chaos at the site, as multiple pillars, electrical poles, signal posts, and both tracks were severely damaged. As a result, several other trains operating on the New Delhi-Howrah main line experienced delays and interruptions in their journeys.

According to Report

Reports suggest that one person has been injured so far, and two to three AC bogies from the train overturned and fell onto the tracks. This derailment had significant repercussions on train movement along the crucial Deen Dayal Upadhyay-Howrah route, which connects cities like Patna, Jhajha, Kiul, Jasidih, and Pataliputra.

Bhojpur District Magistrate Rajkumar Stated

At the scene of the accident on the Buxar train, Bhojpur District Magistrate Rajkumar said, ‘As soon as we received the information, we sent 15 ambulances, 4-5 buses, and an SDRF team from Bhojpur. We have stationed 3 ambulances at the station for the patients who will arrive there. We have made preparations at the district hospital, and the leave of doctors who were on holiday has been canceled. Doctors who were in Patna are also being called back. We have also put AIIMS Patna on standby.

In response to the incident

In response to the incident, senior railway officials swiftly reached the accident site to probe the cause of the derailment. Their primary objective was to restore the train movement on both the up and down tracks. However, it was acknowledged that the process of removing derailed bogies was a complex and time-consuming task, making it challenging to predict how long it would take to clear the tracks. The railways had yet to assess the financial losses incurred due to this derailment.

Efforts were underway

Efforts were underway to repair the damaged tracks and infrastructure. In the absence of an immediate understanding of the derailment’s cause, a dedicated inquiry panel was being formed to investigate the incident further.

Deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav

Notably, Bihar’s deputy chief minister, Tejashwi Yadav, directed the top officials of Buxar and Arrah to make appropriate arrangements for the injured and dispatched officers to the site as quickly as possible.

Union minister Ashwini Choubey

Union minister Ashwini Choubey was actively involved in coordinating rescue operations. He had liaised with the deputy general of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), other officials, and Union railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Choubey mentioned the deployment of medical teams and noted that the rescue operation was ongoing. He had also personally planned to visit Raghunathpur in Buxar.

Local police teams and concerned

In addition to the authorities, local police teams and concerned citizens joined forces to rescue passengers trapped inside the derailed coaches. The full extent of the damage and the overall impact on train services were still being assessed, and the investigation into the derailment’s cause was a top priority.
