GHAZIABAD: Early on Monday morning, Ghaziabad police killed a 28-year-old criminal who was wanted in relation to the death of a 19-year-old B-Tech student during a phone-snatching incident.
The offender has been identified by the police as Jeetendra, also known as Jeetu, a resident of Masuri, Ghaziabad’s Mishal Garhi neighborhood.While riding in an autorickshaw with her companion Diksha Jindal on Friday, Kirti Singh, an ABES College B-Tech student, was hurt in a phone-snatching incident on NH-9 in the Masuri area.
On Sunday, Kirti passed away in Ghaziabad’s Yashoda Hospital. After a gunfight on Sunday, the police took Balbir, one of the suspects, into custody.

He was riding the bike when the phone-snatching event occurred, with the dead, Jeetendra, riding pillion. “On Monday at around three in the morning, police were checking along the Ganga River road when they saw two people on a bike and gave them the signal to stop,” the statement reads. But they turned abruptly and tried to get away. A sub-inspector was hurt when the accused opened fire on the police as they pursued them.
During the gunfight, one of the police officers’ bullets struck the accused in the leg, sending them sprawling onto the street. One of the two people was cornered and taken into custody by the police, while the other one escaped under cover of darkness, according to Vivek Yadav, DCP for the Ghaziabad rural area.

The policeman went on to say that Jeetendra, the injured party, was the one who pulled Kirti from the car after the phone-snatching episode. After being brought to the hospital, he later passed away from his wounds.
